Bob Lauterborn became the first holder of the distinguished James L. Knight chair -- made possible by a million-dollar grant to the School from the Knight Foundation -- in 1986, after a 30-year professional career during which he worked on all sides of the advertising business: account, media, creative and client. Most recently, he was director of marketing communications and corporate advertising for International Paper worldwide. Prior to that he spent 16 years at General Electric, rising to creative director of their 400-person in-house agency.

Lauterborn has also been chairman of Business Marketing Association, vice chairman of the Association of National Advertisers, and a board member of several other industry associations. He is currently a principal in Morgan Anderson Consulting (a marketing communications management consulting firm based in New York ) and a marketing advisory board member of Aprimo (a marketing management software company). He is also a co-author of Integrated Marketing Communications (the seminal book on IMC, now available in thirteen languages) and a frequent contributor to professional periodicals. His interests include marketing, advertising, internal branding and integrated marketing communications.
