The face and the memory of a city
Architecture & Art

Course Objective:

Knowledge for town planners, architects and artists for a social organization of the environment

Course Topics:

Architecture, urban planning, arts

Narrative Course Description:
The first suggestion is an investigation and a representation over the modern city and urban live and for the role, which culture and art for the urbane life have.

"Art gives a face, a shape and a body to the city in connection with architecture. It gives memories, structures and perspectives to the city to the common future. It connects the individuals of a society at places, at crossings, at corners, entrances and exits, upward to the sky and downward to the river and to the underground."

As basis literature I designate the book "Flesh and stone - the body and the city in the western civilization" of the American sociologist, culture scientist and historian Richard Sennett and the essays "The city and the death" of the Serbian architect and writer Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Narrative Course Description:

Culture is perception and appropriation of world and the social organization of the living conditions. Culture is at the same time the connecting in a society. Their special subjecting experiences the culture in the art as particularly more intensive and multiple life orientation of offering activity during this organization process. Culture is first an interference into nature, by making these servable for humans by the society-referred organization. Humans are considered as a social nature, which becomes ill from other human subjects in isolation and finally goes at the basis. When social nature is humans anxious, nature, it objectively hostilely opposite-in relation to themselves can - as force of nature or as animal beast for example -, to adjust or cultivate. (Quotation Rolf Külz Mackenzie from a radio essay "from the role of the art in an ecological culture" Berlin, 1995).

IT IS NOT ENOUGH ONLY TO POSSESS STRONG ATTRIBUTES, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO MANAGE THEM.

THERE ARE TWO WAYS THE MAN CAN RISE UP - BY HIS OWN SKILL OR BY THE IGNORANCE OF THE OTHERS.
